Founder of co2balance, Mark's early background was a Research Chemist with ICI. During his time with ICI Mark specialised in computerisation and computer networking, he developed the first PC based Laboratory Information Management (LIMs) system for the company. He also architected and implement the companies first peer to peer PC network, which at the time was one of the first in the UK
After ICI Mark has joined Philips Electronics’s computing division that later became part of European computing giant Atos Origin, were Mark was the Chief UK Technical Architect and was the person responsible for bring internet access and internet networking to the UK part of the company in the late 1990s
Mark moved on to found co2balance in 2003, to assist with the mitigation of climate change using carbon offsetting as the primary vehicle to achieve this. Under Mark’s stewardship co2balance soon became one of the leading carbon management companies in Europe and was key and founding player in the setting up ICROA. As the market developed Mark saw the opportunity to extend co2balance’s reach and the opportunity to move further in to the carbon project developer space. To this end Mark identified the East African region as offering an opportunity to provide ethical and community based carbon offsetting projects. He established a company in the region in 2006 and since then co2balance has been instrumental in the carbon market of Kenya and the wider region.
